About Datatek

Success Stories

The following cases illustrate some of Datatek’s success stories:

Fortune 1000 Financial Services

A Fortune 1000 financial software and data center services provider wanted to migrate from their legacy platform to an Open System environment. Their software suite was written in a combination of PL/I, Assembler, and script/macro language. Database access was performed through a proprietary relational data manager.

Using Datatek’s automated conversion services, the client’s PL/I and Assembler was converted to C and their script/macro files were converted to an Open Systems scripting language. Datatek replaced the data manager with Datatek/SQL. By migrating to Datatek/SQL, the client gained ODBC data access, a major feature not available in the legacy environment.

Fortune 1000 Specialty Retailer

A Fortune 1000 specialty retailer wanted to migrate their legacy IBM Mainframe applications to an Open Systems platform. Their software suite was written in a combination of COBOL, Assembler, and DYL280.

Using Datatek’s automated conversion services, the client’s Assembler, proprietary COBOL, and DYL280 were converted to Microfocus COBOL.

Major European Aerospace/Defense Manufacturer

A major European aerospace and defense manufacturer wanted to migrate their applications from their legacy platform to Open Systems. Their software was written in PL/I and COBOL. Database access was performed through proprietary hierarchal and relational databases.

Using Datatek’s automated conversion services, the client’s PL/I was converted to C++. A solution partner of Datatek upgraded the COBOL and migrated the databases to an Open Systems database.

Non-Profit Software Cooperative

A non-profit software cooperative wanted to migrate their members from each of their legacy platforms to Open Systems. Their software suite was written in a combination of PL/I, proprietary C, and script/macro language. Database functionality was provided through a proprietary hierarchal data manager.

Using Datatek’s automated conversion services, the client’s PL/I was converted to C, the C to portable C, and the script/macro files to an Open Systems scripting language. The database was migrated to an Open Systems based database.

Fortune 1000 Technology Retailer

A Fortune 1000 technology retailer with a large concurrent user base wanted to migrate from their legacy platform to a UNIX environment. Their software suite was written in the legacy hardware vendor’s proprietary COBOL and script/macro language. Database access was performed through a proprietary hierarchical database.

Using Datatek’s automated conversion services, the proprietary COBOL was migrated to an Open Systems COBOL product and the script/macro files to an Open Systems scripting language. The database was migrated to an Open Systems database.

Fortune 500 Business Outsourcing Services

A Fortune 500 human resources administration services provider wanted to migrate from their legacy platform to Open Systems. Their software suite was written in a combination of proprietary C, proprietary COBOL, Assembler, and a script/macro language. Database access was performed through a proprietary hierarchical data manager.

Using Datatek’s automated conversion services, the Assembler was converted to C, the C to portable C, the COBOL to an Open Systems COBOL product, and the script/macro files to an Open Systems scripting language. The database was migrated to an Open Systems based database.

Fortune 100 Media/Entertainment

A subsidiary of a Fortune 100 Media/Entertainment provider wanted to migrate from their legacy platform to Open Systems. Their applications were written in a combination of proprietary COBOL, Fortran, Assembler, and script/macro language. Database access was performed through a proprietary hierarchical data manager. Consolidation of languages was a major priority for the client.

Using Datatek’s automated conversion services, the Assembler was converted to C, the Fortran to both C and COBOL (dependent on functionality used), and the script/macro files to an Open Systems scripting language. The database was migrated to an Open Systems based database.

State Government Agency

A state government agency wanted to migrate from their proprietary platform to a Linux environment and have their data accessible using an ODBC interface. Their application was written in the hardware vendor’s proprietary COBOL and script/macro language. Their data was stored using the hardware vendor’s hierarchical data manager.

Datatek converted their COBOL to an Open Systems COBOL product and their script/macro files to an Open Systems scripting language. The database was migrated to an Open Systems based database.
